Oddly, these faces look to have Asian characteristics. They look dramatically different from the features seen on the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/baggis/3639901635/">Olmec</a> faces.
<i>Since the 1950s research was on done on "Smiling Faces", some of the earlier ones were whistles, others were rattles. They are found often in Remojadas, but are also found in sites like Loma de los Carmona, Los Cerros y Dicha Tuerta among others, that correspond with the 1st to the 5th century AD.</i>
